I’ve been trying to write this post for well over a week now. Dane Morgan, lost his battle with throat cancer on August 13th, 2021. He was 54; far too young. Cancer, how dare you.
Dane was a Veteran of the United States Army, husband and father, and operated his own web development business. He was also a devoted member of the WordPress community. Up until the pandemic, Dane drove almost 3 hours one direction to come to the St. Louis WordPress meetup every month. He remembered his time as a member of our STL community fondly:
Among the greatest parts of my life. Among the things that have touched me the most I count the WordPress community as a whole and the members of the St. Louis WordPress community in particular.
One of my greatest regrets is not getting involved and meeting all of you wonderful people years earlier, but regrets seem to always be in the things we didn’t do.
I feel so fortunate to have been a part of this community and I miss seeing you guys each month terribly.

Dane was a big presence, not just in height (everyone is taller than me, so I may not be the best reference point), but also in character. He was the first to greet a newcomer and one of the last to leave each month’s meetup. He was one of my biggest cheerleaders in the WordPress community and there are no words that can encompass the emptiness I feel when I think about going to Meetups and WordCamps and knowing that he won’t be there. Until we meet again, rest well.
